Abstract: Document consisting of one preprinted page and two holographic pages by William Spiegel granting power of attorney to "John D. Blanchard" to pursue monetary damages from Jonathan Leister or Norwich, Conn., a ship's captain, who has lost "a Negro man Charles" by "misconduct at Guadeloupe". Spiegel requests a total of 270 Jaer ($2,160) for the loss of the slave, expenses arising from pursuing the matter, and loss of income.
