Reaching Out to the World
dLOC is more than a digital library —
it is an international initiative dedicated to promoting and supporting
Caribbean Studies, providing improved access to Caribbean resources, and
fostering a collaborative digital library community in the Caribbean region.
As such, dLOC is in the process of implementing
outreach programs to integrate our efforts into both the scholarly community
which we serve and the local community where our initiative is based.
Outreach initiatives currently in planning include a arranging on a Teacher Training Workshop, web-hosting a Caribbean Lectures series, and funding the
creation of Educational Web Modules.
Teacher Training
dLOC is preparing a Teacher
Training Workshop targeted to K-12 public school teachers. The
goal of the workshop is to facilitate the use of dLOC materials in curriculum development, and to educate students in
the scholarly use of electronic resources. This event is planned for 2008 in the Miami metropolitan area.
Caribbean Speaker Series
dLOC will host two lectures from Caribbean scholars, to be broadcast on-line and archived in dLOC's collection. Each lecture will feature a scholar's presentation of research or ideas related to dloc collections and themes. Scholars interested in learning more are encouraged to contact the dLOC Project Coordinator. The dLOC lectures are planned for 2008 - 2009.
Educational Modules for the Web
dLOC will fund two competitive grants to support the creation of interactive web modules on themes relevant to dLOC's collections for students of Caribbean Studies. Intererested educators are encouraged to contact the dLOC Project Coordinator for more details. This initiative is planned for launch in 2008.
