The Caribbean Community is firmly committed to cultural and artistic promotion and development and also to the preservation and protection of cultural heritage. This commitment is reflected in the regional cultural policy endorsed by the Caribbean Community in 1994. The Secretariat fully supports regional collaborative initiatives which include the sharing of resources that document Caribbean identity, history and culture.

The Documentation Centre which is responsible for the management of the CARIFESTA collection has collaborated with both internal and external sources in harnessing a rich heritage of valuable information materials which contribute greatly to research and scholarship. The early years of CARIFESTA were captured from the Newspaper clippings collection sourced from The Guyana National Library. The Secretariat’s Culture Programme continues to contribute items for digitization. The CARIFESTA collection currently covers information emanating from 10 CARIFESTAs - the most recent having been convened in Guyana in 2008.
The Collection includes consultants’ and country reports, articles extracted from magazines, correspondence, press releases, information leaflets, presentations at Symposia, programmes, various CARIFESTA themes; posters, photographs and newspaper clippings.
